FAQ'S

We want to make it as easy as possible if you are considering Cedar & Oak for a shepherd hut, garden building or spec ial project..

Below are a few questions and answers we commonly get asked.

If you need any further information please feel free to give us a call, send an email or arrange to pop in for a cup of tea and a chat.

WILL I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION?

Will i need planning permission?

Due to the nature of shepherd huts being on wheels making them moveable you usually will not need planning permission. However, it is always advisable to check with your local planning department first.

If you would like to rent your hut out or change the use of the land you will need to obtain planning permission. We can supply CAD drawings for this when required, please get in touch to discuss this further.

DO I NEED A CONCRETE BASE?

Do i need a concrete base?

No, you do not need a concrete base. If you would like your hut to sit on grass, it will be fine as long as it is generally quite hard and free draining.

If however, your grass gets soft easily we would suggest laying either four paving slabs, treated timber sleepers or small concrete pads to go under each wheel.

If you have a flagged, pebble or tarmac area already that you would like to place your hut onto that will be fine as well.

CAN YOU MOVE A SHEPHERD HUT ?

Can  you move a shepherds hut?

Our huts are built on a strong a chassis with a removable drawbar allowing you to move your hut if required. All you would need to do reattach the drawbar  and use a 4x4 or tractor to move the hut to its new location.

If you need to move the hut a little further, such as if you're moving house, this is not a problem either, as all our huts are robust and built to last. We can assist with moving your hut if this is required, please get in touch.

ARE THEY WARM ENOUGH TO USE IN WINTER?

Are they warm enough to use in winter?

Our huts are built to be used all year around. The walls, roof and floor are all insulated using quality insulation and we use thermally efficient doors and windows. These elements along with our strong timber framework combine to make our huts very similar in specification to a modern timber frame house.  This makes our huts cool in the summer sun and cosy in the winter snow. We can also fit log burning stoves, electric stoves or electric wall heaters to keep our huts super snug.
